Jon Alfrey
I was born on May 14th 1973 in Shelby, Ohio to Lavada & Arthur
Alfrey. I have a brother four years younger than myself (Ben).
My father was my first inspiration to music. He played in bands that did oldies rock
and country music.
As I grew up I was influenced and fascinated by drums and drummers in my dad's bands.
When my dad would practice his guitar and sing songs, I would use my mother's kitchen
spoons and bang on the floor, books, coffee cans, or anything I could hit (and got into
trouble for doing so).
On Christmas of 1984 I got my first drum set and my brother got an electric guitar and
amp. I practiced every day, and learned all kinds of music styles ranging from country to
hard rock.
I sat in, from time to time, with some of my dad's bands to play a song or two. I also
learned to play guitar as the 80's rock and metal took place. I jumped back and forth from
drums to guitar and back.
My first rock band on drums was called Demon Alcohol. We were just three beginners
progressing into the rock world.
Then I started playing more guitar and jamming with different people and friends. I
even started a band called Accelerator with me on vocals and lead guitar, a neighborhood
friend on bass, and another on drums. The band name then changed to the Elm Street Boys.
We played anything from AC/DC to Alabama. Some times the drummer and I would switch
places and I would play drums. I jammed with a couple of other bands on and off on guitar
and drums (mostly country music).
I joined, and played drums, in a hard rock band called Leviathon, which lasted about
six months. We played mostly parties and dances.
I went back to the country scene for extra money and experience. I joined a band called
Southern Comfort, with some musicians I grew up around from my father's bands. I played
drums in numerous clubs with them.
I also jammed with my brother in a band called Malachi, where I played guitar and sang
music like Great White, Mr. Big, Metallica, etc.
My next band was called The Boys Out Back. It was one of the first original bands that
I played in. It was my first oppourtunity to create my own drum concepts. It was country
music with a rock-n-roll twist.
Although I enjoyed country music, I couldn't ignore my love for rock and heavy metal
music.
I met a guy who was performing in a band called Lost Angel and was asked to join. Lost
Angel has grown to what it is now.
